Goal Weight: My Only Two-Piece Bathing Suit Was a Disaster

It’s pre-summer in the diet world; that’s the season that comes after the New Year’s diet has failed and before the late-summer pre-holiday diet commences. In this time, often called bikini season, we all get ready for the beach or the pool, or wherever it is you may find the need to put on a bathing suit or bare your arms in a summer top.

Whenever someone says “beach body,” my mind and my anxiety time-travel back decades to what I think was the only two-piece bathing suit I ever owned.

The summer before high school, I bought a bathing suit that today would be considered a modest two-piece, not a bikini. I must have been feeling either devil-may-care or delusional when I decided I wanted this suit, rather than the swim team styles available in sporting goods stores. (Never thin, but always hopeful, I thought those one-piece suits actually hid my body, rather than just covering it.)

But this two-piece was beautiful. The background was magenta, with a tropical print, lots of aqua-colored flowers. The bottom had ties on the sides that could be cinched to make it smaller, or not. The top was pretty full coverage.
